The first ramblings…about me

I have been a member of Hornsby District Toastmasters since I was 18 (Toastmasters International states that this is the minimum joining age – or I would have joined sooner!). I am currently serving on the 2009/2010 Club Committee in the role of Vice-President Membership and I love challenging members to constantly strive to improve and extend themselves. I keep coming back to my club because I find the members to be a constant source of inspiration and joy.

I have argued with the historian Keith Windshuttle and spoken to crowds in excess of 2,000. I am also particularly proud of being chosen as a student speaker within the Global Leadership Program during my first round of time at Macquarie University, which gave me the opportunity to ‘rub shoulders’ with Richard Butler AC, the former Australian diplomat, United Nations weapons inspector, and Governor of Tasmania and Dr Helen Caldicott, the noted anti-nuclear campaigner and author.

As part of my long term goals, I hope to one day reach the Finals of the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking (only four women to date have won the title) and also to make the perfect passionfruit pavlova. My favourite word at the moment is ‘anatidaephobia’ (the fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you).
